Owyhee 2012
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has just announced they will be removing wild horses from the Owyhee Complex via helicopter roundup beginning November first.
Our work at Owyhee has extended years and includes the fight to gain access to capture of wild horses and to ensure their humane care. HELP US continue the fight! Contributions will be doubled through November 1 by a generous donor. Click HERE to donate.
We won the first of our First Amendment cases at Owyhee (BLM called it “Tuscarora”) against closure of public land in 2010. That fight included being chased around the desert and threatened with arrest if we continued on a PUBLIC road where we could have viewed wild horses captured in holding.

In 2012/13 we won a amazing victory against inhumane treatment during a harsh winter roundup. The order from Honorable Federal Judge Miranda Du brought tears to our founders eyes as she forbade BLM to run horses through bared wire, hot shot youngsters, run bands so hard that foals fall behind among other restrictions. In 2013 we added the Snowstorm operation to our litigation. We challenged the justification to remove horses under the flawed EA. BLM cancelled the removal. https://wildhorseeducation.org/2013/08/19/wild-horse-roundup-suspended-after-legal-action-filed/
This operation will resemble the ones we have NOT seen in years! 1600 wild horses will be captured and 1100 of them permanently removed from the range. The operation will likely last at least 6 weeks in duration.
These operations are arduous to cover and weather is often extreme. PLEASE help us stay on the ground for the wild horses of Owyhee! PLEASE help us be ready to challenge and and all actions that threaten the wild horses well being, our right to access and any actions that remain unjustified under the exact same EA. Donate HERE
