The burro roundup at the Selenite HA (Blue Wing) began on November 29. BLM plans to capture 200. The burros will be taken to Palomino Valley (PVC) in Reno, NV.
On the first day BLM captured, via helicopter and horseback drive, 80 wild burros: 80 (41 Jacks, 32 Jennies, and 7 Foals).
Fifteen year-old grey jack euthanized. BLM said “due to a pre-existing condition (Fracture — front left leg).”
Six year-old grey jack euthanized. BLM said “due to a pre-existing condition (Fracture — front left leg).”
All of the captured burros were shipped about 1.5 hours to the PVC corrals north of Reno.
The SELENITE HA is located is SE of Gerlach (Burning Man area) and NW of of Lovelock. Technically, the area is part of the Blue Wing Complex with transitory populations that move from Shawave, Lava Beds and Blue Wing. Yet, BLM says “0 burros” can live in Selenite.
As with most things the agency dubs “management,” we fail to find any logic. It is good to remember that the National Academy of Sciences (from 1982-2013) has also failed BLM on any data, science, or historic justification.
You can still help to educate Congress. Please take action to demand Congress defund any roundups where the BLM has failed to create open and transparent management planning. Click HERE.
The burros that occupy the area are large burros and can exhibit a “paint” coat.

Call the Senate switchboard and ask for your rep. Demand that all actions against wild horses and burros halt until William Perry Pendley leaves the BLM. His tenure was ruled illegal and BLM is still moving an agenda forward for Pendley’s former law clients. Switchboard (202) 224-3121
