Day 2 Beaty’s Butte wild horse roundup.
From BLM website: The Lakeview Resource Area, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has determined that an excess of wild horses occurs in the Beaty Butte Herd Management Area (HMA) located east of Adel in southeast Lake County, Oregon. The BLM is going to gather approximately 1,500 excess horses within and adjacent to the HMA in the fall of 2015. The DNA and attached monitoring report have been prepared to document that this action has been adequately analyzed in an existing environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact. The decision to conduct this horse gather was made in September 2009 and is not subject to appeal at this time. The supporting documents may be viewed at http://www.blm.gov/or/districts/lakeview/plans/plans-details.php?id=1097.
120 taken day 1
149 (tentative total) taken day 2.
One horse euthanized. BLM said “old injury, broken leg.” Will update as we gain info. (Edited, two deaths. One from a fresh break, one older injury).
