WHE History

Wild Horse Education was founded on the premise that an educated advocacy is the best defense our wild horses and burros can have in a propaganda driven world.

Overview, Literally

Open range is a romantic notion, nothing more. Our western landscape is a series of fenced grazing land, fenced open pit mines and very few truly wild places left. Our public lands are being carved up to suit industry, not landscape preservation.

First Amendment

Our founder Laura Leigh comes from the world of media; books, magazines, photojournalism and journalism. She came to the West a decade ago to tell the story of the wild horse.

Justification

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has been failed by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) since the 1980’s on having a scientific basis for creating justified actions in practice.

Fast FAQs

We know that the world our wild horses live in can seem complicated. Below we list the most commonly asked questions and links for further reading. We hope this helps you begin your wild, wild horse education!
