Why is so much of what we share sad and ugly? Because we are protecting a precious treasure that is under constant threat. Our amazing wild horses and burros, as well as the public places they call home, are under relentless assault by private profit driven interests.

What we share about wild horses and burros is often painful because their story is so often one of loss, pressure, and inhumane treatment. Let’s pause to honor the rare and beautiful treasures we are committed to protect.
Our love for the Wilds is not limited by the span of the sun they bask in, the clouds that cast enchanting shadows on them, or the distance of the stars that illuminate them; it has no boundaries.
It is limited by no season.
The honor of being in their presence is enough to soar the spirits, and the sound of a soft nicker between a herd mate or foal is a symphony to our ears. They are vulnerable yet fierce, spiritual, and naive in the innocence of their unaware beauty and grace.
They are often the grittiest inhabitants on the range and bear themselves with unmatched verve, a testament to their survival in areas encroached upon by human assaults on their natural ways.
We admire their ability to ascend towering mountains, traverse rivers and canyons, float across the plains, negotiate blazing deserts, and survive the harshest climates.
As they glide across the valley and draw, their hoofbeats can raise a heart to a level akin to a hummingbird’s wings. A heart sings as we share with them the exhilaration of their wildness, agility, and prowess in navigating the obstacles and terrain in their shrewdly chosen paths.
We are awed at their mystical demeanor as they vanish from view.
We choose to admire their beauty with devotion and purpose.
In order to protect the moments of awe and peace, we must continue to roll up our sleeves and take on hard and dirty tasks.
May we continue to stand together without fear of facing the heartbreak and hard work.
Without it, these moments will become nothing but a memory.
