Banning Horse Slaughter

Several of our readers have emailed asking about the fight to stop equine slaughter.

Although there is a prohibition against federal agencies selling wild horses and burros to slaughter, loopholes and title transfer land thousands of our wild ones in the slaughter pipeline each year. Once title transfers, a wild horse or burro loses any protection they might be afforded by the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act, becoming a domestic under law.

Working to ban horse slaughter protects both wild and domestic equines.

Volunteer Colette Kaluza spent some time putting together an article. You can read it in the pdf reader below or download by clicking here.

Right now links are only active in the downloadable version. We are working to fix the issue.

DRAFT 1 10-15-25- BANNING HORSE SLAUGHTER

At WHE we are working to protect our wild ones on range, through capture and the system of holding and to protect the ones that slip through the system and find themselves a victim of the seedy horse-slaughter trade.

Thank you for keeping WHE running for our wild ones!

On October 19th at 11 a.m. PST we will be running a live session for the subscriber tiers on our Patron account. We will give you an update on litigation and, if the government is back to work, we will also give you outreach tips. You can join our monthly supporters on Patreon HERE. If you join in October, your first 3 months of contributions will be doubled as part of the matching funds we were offered by a generous donor!
