UNITE: Speak up to prevent wild horses and burros from being sold direct to slaughter or being killed outright.
Public voices matter and can have a profound impact on how Congress writes and passes bills. Just last week, public outcry has impacted how the mandatory sale of public lands proposed by Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) has been gutted from the massive tax “Big Beautiful Bill” to extend the tax cuts for the top 2% set to expire. (We thank all of you that have taken our action items!)
We need to have the same type of pressure on lawmakers as they draft the Fiscal Year 2026 Appropriations bill. The bills for fiscal 2026 are being drafted, now.
The Presidential Budget Request cuts funding of the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program by nearly 30% and removes the prohibitions against killing healthy wild horses and burros or selling them without limits (slaughter).
In 2017, this same exact situation occurred. With your help, we beat it back and retained those prohibitions. We can do it again.
A NATIONAL CALL-IN DAY OF ACTION
When: Tuesday, July 1st, 2025
We are asking each of you to spend just 10 minutes of your time on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, to call your two U.S. Senators and your Member of Congress in the House of Representatives.
Wild horse and burro advocates number in the millions of Americans. But you cannot rely on others to speak up for you. Speak up and be counted!
CALL Your U.S. Senator and your House Representative through the
Capitol Switchboard (202) 224-3121
Or you can find their direct line by looking them up at the links below.

Please ask them to:
1. Request that the FY2026 Appropriations Bill for the Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management Wild Horse and Burro Program include a prohibition for unlimited sale (to slaughter) and killing of healthy wild horses and burros as previous bills have had in the past. There are over 64,000 wild horses and burros in holding facilities in danger, and thousands more are scheduled to be rounded up and removed before October 1, 2025.. Americans will not accept this abhorrent betrayal of the intention of the law.
2. Reject the Privatization and Sale of America’s precious Public Lands in any bill, in any form. Home to over 3,000 species of wildlife, including our Wild Horses and Burros, our public lands are an American legacy for all, not a “balance sheet” for tax-cuts for the wealthiest 2%. The vast majority of Americans oppose the selling or closing of Public Lands, according to a 2025 poll.
On Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, let us all unite as One CALL OF THE WILD
We must unite and speak to Congress together in one loud voice,
“Hands Off Our Wild Horses! Hands Off Our Public Lands!”

Earlier this year WHE’s Colette Kaluza took to the streets
During a large protest in California earlier this year, Colette went to a protest with a simple sign and simple message: Hands off our wild horses! She stood up and showed up and… it made the news.
Our wild horses made the list because someone showed up and spoke up.

From article linked above.
On Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, let us all unite.
We must unite and speak to Congress together in one loud voice,
“Hands Off Our Wild Horses! Hands Off Our Public Lands!”
Your voice matters! Stand up and be counted. Our wild ones need you now more than ever.
All of our work is only possible with your support.
Your support keeps our teams in the field, our investigations running and our litigation alive. Together, we will take a strong stand to defend our precious wild ones.
