East Pershing (1-8)

The second week of the East Pershing roundup is underway. So far, 988 Wild Horses (436 Stallions, 463 Mares, and 89 Foals) have been captured. Eleven wild horses have died including a colt roped with his mom who dislocated a knee.

54 (28 Stallions, 22 Mares, and 4 Foals) wild horses were captured on 1/8. We are informed that BLM’s internal CAWP team has finally arrived.

The 2 videos above, point to an issue we have been raising with BLM for over a decade: they set trap based on human vision, not equine vision, creating unnecessary hazard. Luckily, there were no broken necks. We will have an article shortly on how BLM has not really changed how they roundup wild horses since the first helicopter roundups and how they still do not take time to think about what, exactly, is a wild horse.

If you have been following the operation, you know during week 1 BLM made a big deal about not taking a picture from your truck of trailers going by. It was cold today, it was not a problem. Taking pictures sitting inside your vehicle, has never been an issue until this particular roundup. It looks like the cold weather resolved that issue.

Our team member is back onsite today as winter storms begin to hit the area.

Black Mountain burro roundup, the largest burro roundup on the 2024 schedule, is beginning.

Our wild ones should live free on the range with the families they hold dear. Our wild ones should also live without abuse. WHE carries ongoing litigation to push BLM into open public process to create an enforceable welfare standard for our treasured wild ones.

Thank you for keeping us in the field and in the fight to protect and preserve our treasured wild horses and burros!
