The final countdown to the new year has begun. Together we have covered a lot of ground in 2023. We have made a stand to preserve our herds on public lands and shined a bright light the beauty of our wild ones and the wild places they call home. We have also cast a light and exposed abuses of power that are destroying herds and habitat using politics, not facts. We have taken a strong stand in the courts on numerous cases that have survived multiple Motions to Dismiss and move forward in the courts to push real reform.
Our team is in the field at the ongoing East Pershing roundup, the largest removal on the 2024 schedule. Our teams are working on legal deadlines hitting the first weeks of the new year. We are working on our 2024 public action calendar.
Throughout the year we continue to monitor herds and roundups, write extensive reports and articles to help educate the public and lawmakers, do research and provide examples to engage land use processes and, when needed, step up with litigation still working through the courts.
Not only are we carrying litigation to gain enforceable welfare rules and put an end to preventable injury and death, we are also fighting to keep wild horses and burros free, fighting for the herds and habitats they call home. We carry the only lawsuit in the country that includes burros at Blue Wing. Just last month, we filed a lawsuit to protect an historic herd at Stone Cabin from becoming the latest pawn in settlements with livestock permittees trying to force removals.
Together, in 2023, we were both the frontline and the last line.
As 2023 draws to a close people all over the world celebrate leaving the old year behind and embracing a new year full of possibility.
In 2024 it possible to create reform. We can gain data-based management, obtain real transparency and push an enforceable welfare policy over the last hurdle to become reality.
In 2023 we gained real momentum and put in play game changing litigation. Together, we can take reach goals we have been striving for a very long time in 2024.
We wish you a safe, happy and fulfilling New Year.
