2016:

Readers are always asking “what can we do?” The threats to public land, and all that live and grow and breath on those lands, may never be greater. Make your voice heard in this time of massive legislation to gut protections! Let you legislators know you will NOT tolerate transfer of land, or management of those lands, to slip into the grip of those only intent on profit driven exploitation. You expect the federal government to maintain management and remove this environment of fear and manipulation from our public lands, now.

If they don’t listen to you? You CAN vote them out!

In Montana there is a midterm election worth keeping an eye on. Earlier this month we wrote about Gianforte, a Republican candidate that Secretary of Interior Ryan Zinke openly endorsed. Gianforte has a dismal record. A group of 40 Montana writers have created an endorsement for Rob Quist, who is running against Gianforte.

“Contributors, Davis said, are worried about Republican candidate Greg Gianforte’s commitment to what they consider a key issue for the state: preserving access to public lands. Given that, they see Quist as the better option.”

This midterm election, next year, is critical. All 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 34 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate will be contested. The time is NOW to learn the stance of your representatives in Congress. If they wont listen to you find out who is running against them and what their platforms are. Public land must remain open to the public. Management must not transfer from federal agencies. You are tired of the environment of fear and intimidation that constantly places our wild horses at risk.

WHE is busy getting crucial information to legislators in these tumultuous times. Public debate has been limited as Resource Advisory Councils and Advisory have been “shut down” until September, after much of this debate would become irrelevant. (We will have more on that soon).
