Detour: Salt Wells

The summer Rock Springs roundups of 2025 have begin. The Adobe Town HMA operation is underway.

The operation targets 1,675 wild horses for removal from the Adobe Town HMA. Appropriate Management Level (AML) in the Adobe Town HMA was lowered in the 2023 RMP Amendment to 259–536 from the 2021 numbers of 610-800. The lower number that reflects the “zeroed out” portion of Adobe Town remains the active goal regardless of the ruling of the Tenth Circuit. (See more HERE)

On August 25, BLM will begin the removal of the Salt Wells herd. BLM has stated their intention is to begin the first roundup of several they have planned to “zero out” the area. Just like you, we are waiting to hear more clarification from the both BLM and the courts on the status of the removal plan as the lower court completes the review (the circuit court ordered).

We wanted to share some images of Salt Wells with all of you as we all wait to see what happens next.

The roundup at Adobe Town continues and we will continue team coverage from onsite. Legal battles rage on for several other herds including Stone Cabin/Saulsbury, Carter/Buckhorn/Coppersmith and Pancake (where BLM is trying to slip in a roundup with less than 24 hours notice as we continue to battle those issues out in court). Our legal team is jumping today and we will have more info for you soon.

Take a moment and soak in the wild. Remember what we all fight for and steel yourself for the next battles.

Our teams need your support. All of our work is only possible because of you.
