Breathing Space (Compassion and Hope)

As advocates we are united in love and purpose to work (as long and as hard as it takes) to protect and preserve our precious wild ones. Our united purpose finds us at a moment in history where our challenges are unprecedented. However, it does not mean that there is not concrete action we can take to both prepare for battles ahead and continue to face the challenges of the moment.

Our team is working hard on numerous active lawsuits we have in our federal courts, researching new cases and continuing the fight to gain accountability to welfare and fair management mandates. We are still working with policy and lawmakers providing desperately needed information to create reform.

We are also working on plain language breakdowns of legislative processes like the spending bills (Appropriations) and also keeping you updated on active comments periods for wild horses and burros open under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). We know these processes are also under threat and we are working on updates.

We are receiving emails that reflect your frustration, sadness and confusion. These emotions are shared by many as advocates for numerous living beings seek a road that can lead to justice.

Staying strong and focused springs from our ability to love something deeply.

Quotes abound that can bring you hope as difficulties arise; so many that it may feel cliche. Instead of dismissing these phrases as being without meaning, recognizing that the truth they convey is so widespread in human history that the meaning conveyed holds real power.

From spiritual leaders to pop culture, we hear reminders that through our love, compassion and kindness springs real strength and the power for change.

Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity. ~ Buddha

Love is our strength. ~ Pope Francis

Kindness is the only service that will stand the storm of life and not wash out. ~ Abraham Lincoln

Saruman believes that it is only great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. I’ve found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay. ~ Gandalf, The Hobbit

As we deal with the complexities and difficult necessities of being advocates for our wild ones, that have no voice, please remember your deeds born of your love for them really do matter.

Ground yourself in hope.

Together, we will stand strong.

We are working on a plain language outline of legislative processes and a calendar and will publish shortly. Until then, simply making one call as the boundaries of traditional business in Congress is in chaos can help. Learn more HERE,

All of our work is only possible with your support. We thank you for keeping the critical work we do at WHE running for our wild ones.
