Triple B Ends (and Advisory Board Meeting)

The tragic Triple B Complex roundup has ended. 2,196 wild horses were captured (includes 2 that were claimed as domestics by a permittee). 27 died onsite. BLM says they released 39 (23 mares treated with GonaCon).

Under this single Gather Environmental Assessment (EA) BLM has removed 14,366 wild horses since 2017. Please let that sink in. Nowhere else in our nation is there (still is) a land base large enough to support numbers like those, nowhere. 20% of ALL wild horses removed since 2017 have been removed under this one plan under the entire Wild Horse and Burro program.

For the last 7 years BLM has been pushing toward what they dub an Appropriate Management Level (AML) under the single largest roundup plan in the nation: Antelope Complex and Triple B Complex lumped into one. BLM says they need to be “at or near” AML before applying fertility control of any form. BLM has been switching to GonaCon as “expansion of temporary fertility control” since 2019 under the increase in funding.

Even though numbers alone do not reflect the legal definition of “excess,” everything in the program is geared toward obtaining a non data-based or scientifically justified number  and keeping populations at that number.

We are in court NOW fighting this insanity. Just like you, we wish the court granted the motion to stop this plan while we argue the case. But simply because we lost a motion is not a reason to give up. The issues in this case are a really BIG deal that will continue to impact this complex and impact the majority of herds left in the US.  Just like the other cases we brought to conclusion in 2024 and won, we must do the same here. Every case we brought to conclusion in 2024 eventually won. We must see this fight through to conclusion.

Dangerous air quality from smoke did not pause the roundup. BLM has no air quality parameters at all in any standard. The Advisory Board has never addressed the fact that BLM never opened welfare rules for public comment completing the formal process of making rules enforceable.

Our team is working on a number of legal actions and in-depth investigations and we will have an update soon.

We are also working on our year end reviews.

2024 was a very busy year and where a lot has happened (and is still happening). We have broken ground and we will need to move hard in 2025 to keep those wins and move them forward toward needed reform.

End of year funding is critical to keep our team in the field reporting to you and all of the other work we do like investigations and litigation. Without your support, none of our work is possible. Thank you!

Calendars are now 40% off on our Zazzle storefront! 100% of all proceeds of product sales support the work of WHE.
