During the last months of the year part of the holiday season includes gift giving among family and friends. Carefully choosing gifts with love and bringing comfort and joy.
At WHE our work for our wild ones is undertaken with careful thought and effort to bring a better future to our wild ones. The effort is made 365 days a year.
We want you to know that we is working hard this holiday season.
Yesterday we filed in federal court against a land use court ruling that bars wild horse advocates from fighting against habitat loss and damage from mining. A massive mine expansion will eat up preferred wild horse habitat and absolutely zero mitigation of that loss was performed. Only when the habitat loss overlaps that of other species do land use courts recognize standing. WHE have filed litigation in order to allow advocates to fight for the survival of wild herds throughout the West as habitat loss drives massive removals and threatens the survival of herds into the future.
In another case, this week, we filed for Summary Judgement in a case to protect the historic herds of Stone Cabin/Saulsbury. BLM has failed to follow clearly stated monitoring, identification of migratory patterns and water improvements. Instead, BLM has simply created another removal plan and the permittee has filed litigation to force a removal immediately. WHE is speaking for our wild ones in a distinct lawsuit to hold BLM accountable and stop the backdoor deal making that has driven management for decades.
Over the last few weeks we have been working hard to create access to observe captive burros at an off-limits holding corral in Utah that only allows the public to see captive wild horses once a year. Captive burros are even more susceptible to death from capture stress and rates of deaths in Jennies (female burros) have risen as high as 20% in the first three months after capture. Through this work, tours will be provided in order to check on the welfare of captive burros.
We are crafting litigation to address another off-limits to the public facility where, in the last 4 years, the public has only been allowed in once. Our investigative team has uncovered alarming deaths rates at the facility and issues of inadequate care and access must be addressed.
Additional briefs have been filed in active lawsuits to keep our wild ones free on the range and free from abuse.
As you celebrate this holiday season our gift to you and our wild ones… we will remain vigilant and hard at work. Together, we will stand strong to bring about a better future for our wild ones free on the range and free from abuse.
We wish you Peace, Love and HOPE.
End-of-year funding is critical. Please, help us continue the battle and expand our reach.
WHE has a 10K match through the end of the year to keep our team running and precedent setting litigation alive (every case we have brought to conclusion in 2024 has walked away with a desperately needed win). We must take litigation already active to conclusion and launch additional cases to protect and preserve our wild ones in 2025. Your contributions will be doubled, dollar-for-dollar!
A SPECIAL 5K bonus match has been added just for the boots-on-the-ground reporting team! If you make your contribution a monthly contribution that lasts at least 3 months, your contribution will be TRIPLED!
