The Complex contains approximately 2,283,300 acres of unfenced public lands and consists of Blue Wing Mountains HMA, Kamma Mountains HMA, Lava Beds HMA, Seven Troughs HMA, Shawave Mountains HMA, Antelope Range HA, Euguene Mtns HA, Selenite Range HA, Trinity Range HA and the Truckee Range HA.
The fight will continue for the 2.2 million acre Blue Wing Complex where BLM says only 333-555 horses and 55-90 burros can live. We are awaiting a ruling from the court.
During this operation, BLM is hitting the Herd Areas (HA) hard. A Herd Area is an area designated for horse and burro use, but BLM decided for one reason or another that they were not going to manage horses these claiming they are “unsustainable.” In this case, it was an agreement with county and permittees due to disputes over “public/private” land and water.
You can follow our team daily commentary HERE.
On this day, the Trinity HA was targeted.
We break down the videos into sections.
Below: In the first video you can see how the horses are being pushed down out of the rugged mountain.
Below: This is the first time we have had a clear view (no matter how far) of the trap itself. You can see the wings of the trap use old barbed wire livestock fencing and corrals as part of the infrastructure.
You can see this area is far from “horses can’t be sustained,” but a nice size herd and babies.
Below: We apologize for the quality, but our observer is far from trap. However, you can see some of the loading at trap. It appears there were a few instances where “baggy whips” were turned around to poke horses, paddles striking heads and necks and overhead bars that may have once been “padded” (some ver padded) but are now just shreds of tape that afford no protection.
People have asked us who is responsible for things like making sure padding is actually padding or that trailers have no rough edges, trailers are cleaned, etc.? The BLM lead onsite is supposed to inspect equipment and have required repairs and adjustments done,
It has been confirmed a hot shot was used today because “a horse would not go in.”
Below: This tiny family was the last run of the day as temperatures reached the mid 90s. BLM is intent on removing all wild horses from the HA.
Our team remains onsite.
Thank you for keeping WHE on the frontline in the fight to protect and preserve our treasured wild ones!
